Melora has a nickname for me. She calls me either Sharkie or Sharkster, due to my love of sharks. And you know what? I'm a self-confessed lover of sharks. I just love them. I mean, I've always been an advocate for animal love, and I love all sorts of creatures, and appreciate the uniqueness of bugs and insects even if they make me feel squeamish(EXCEPT for useless buggies like ROACHES. Those need to be killed. ASAP.). I just... they captivate me. But there are certain animals which just have a placement of ten on a scale of one to ten, compared to others which might, I dunno, have a placement of maybe seven. For example, I'm really not into orang-utans, though there are some people who are so in love with them. I like orang-utans, and I do get mad at the people who torture them and burn their habitat, but.. well... I guess sharks and tigers just come for me first. After all, I'm a cat lover.
Here's an interesting side note: While analysing Life Of Pi in ENG4U last sem, Leandra and I were the last to leave class while she asked a few questions to Mr Wise regarding the novel, which is has a lot of animal elements in it. I think after some kind of joke Mr Wise asked use what sort of animal we'd like to be personally, and I randomly said, "A panther." Boy did I make him laugh. And yes, I love wild cats. I wouldn't know how to choose between a panther or a leopard or a jaguar or a tiger or.. yeah you get the point.
But no matter. I've realized, recently, how much I've been loving sharks. So much so I'm intrigued to the point I start storing amazing photos I find of them, taken by these professional photographers who stay up for DAYS on a tiny boat waiting for a glimpse of them. I take my hat off to them, sirs.
I mean... just look at them!
Breathtaking
Those shots are one of my favorites. It just.. literally highlights the majesty and beauty and the dominant side of a shark, in particular, the Great White. I'm obsessed with Great Whites. I think they're amazing, wondrous creatures, full of mystery and intrigue, dangerous but reclusive, stunning but armed with killer instinct. Something about them just captivates me. It's one thing if it's a picture of a dolphin jumping out of the water, but a shark..? Let alone a Great White? Amazing. Just, absolutely, plain beauty and creativity of the Lord.
Here's some other shots of some skinnier models:
This one isn't quite as large as the first one. Hence me dubbing it the size zero model XD. Another thing I entirely loved about the first shark was it's massive size. Such a symbol of power and speed, it's beautiful, in my eyes. The skinny one, though, is quite the acrobat. Reminds me of a couple of friends who parkour and do back flips. Hrmm.. see, sharks do inspire humans indeed! :D
JAWS
This shot is freaky, but nevertheless still majestic. Reminds me of a lion's pride, or something. Its massive head up out of the water, teeth in full view, showcasing its power. Gorgeous.
Nature's (second-rate)acrobat next to dolphins
I hate the backlash against sharks, the point when shark attacks spur people to demand a hunt-and-kill campaign to take down the 'killer shark', as they dub it. Surfers get attacked, killed, for being in waters which are, excuse me, their domain, their habitat, their world. It's their home, where they live. It's the 21st century, people should get their knowledge first on which waters are safe, and which are not, and which might prove tactful. If you know you are at risk of getting attacked, but choose to swim anyway, and then get injured or something, quit blaming the shark. Most shark attack victims, the survivors, I mean, have often spoken in support for sharks. I remember a report of a survivor who said he refused to blame the shark, it was an animal after all, and shouldn't be held responsible.
And that's the truth.
Should we blame a tiger if we invade its territory, and it attacks us? Do we blame a snake if we accidentally stepped on it and it bites us in defense? Come one, people. It's no different when it comes to sharks, the only difference is that it the water can never be taken away, and the ocean is far larger than rainforests.
The problem lies within those who have lost loved ones, and those who fear for their lives, when shark attacks happen. They start staging demands for a hunt-and-kill, which I think is a shame, because you're wasting effort and energy killing an innocent shark, when the money could be used to help out with this endangered species.
Lol, now I'm starting to sound like some kind of obsessed shark activist.
Don't do stupid things like these..
... you're just asking for trouble.
I had a funny dream the other night. Okay, so it wasn't funny, I was nearly eaten by a shark, but my point is, it kinda reinforced my love for them. I'm pretty afraid of them, and wouldn't put myself in a dangerous position whereby I might get mauled of killed, but I do think they are a fabulous species. I wish people would stop eating shark's fin*COUGH**Chinesepeople*, I wish people would just stop with the hate on sharks. They're lovely creatures, and need to be saved. Respect their territory, and they'll respect your lives.
LOL. I really am a shark activist now. I don't know why, something just compelled me to blog about this, after a long time of not blogging. It's prolly not even interesting, and highly un-moving, but it's just what I feel. One of my biggest dreams someday would be to go shark diving, and see a Great White up front, but in a cage, of course. Heck, I'm not putting myself at risk in case it mistakes me for chum and goes MUNCH and half of me is gone in a sec.
So yeah, while Melora is absolutely in love with unicorns, I love my sharks.
Maybe, one day I'll have one about panthers, you know, black panthers.
They're the epitome of majestic. Most argue that lions are, but if you saw them in real life, black panthers are like the dark lords. Heck, gotta love them.
Oh, don't look at me like that.
